DOUBLE ACTING

Double Acting (Stay As Is)
Double-acting actuators are similar to their cousin the single-acting actuators. The major difference between the two are there is “no”spring, the double-acting actuators have two ports which may be used alternatively as either the supply or exhaust ports. Double-acting actuators maybe controlled by two positions or three positions two-way, three-way, four-way or four-way five ported directional control valves. Linear actuator seals should always be capable of withstanding pneumatic industrial applications requirements. Seals must be able to provide the following resilience, strength, low frication, wear resistance, temperature changes and the ability to form a tight seal.

Double Acting - General Principles
  • Normally used for on /off and regulating operation
  • Fail safe position: Stay as is
  • Valve stays at the same position in the event of power or air failure.
  • Air to Open / Air to Close
  • Generally used in non critical applications.
  • Two Air Inlet Ports
  • 5/2 way solenoid valve for air supply
Double Acting - Working Principles
  • Air is generally given to port A of actuator which pushes the piston with rack inwards. The rack is geared to the piston and due to the movement of the rack, the piston rotates.

  • When air is given to port B, the piston moves outwards and the rack rotates the pinion.

  • Pinion is directly connected to the valve stem and makes the valve operate for air supply at both A & B ports.

  • The reversal of air is achieved by 5/2 solenoid valve.
